Nscale Partners with VAST Data to Power Global AI Expansion
Nscale has announced a new collaboration with VAST Data as part of its ongoing capacity growth. The partnership follows a series of major developments from Nscale, including plans to deliver 116,000 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs to Microsoft, deploy a large-scale GPU cluster in Portugal, and provide compute infrastructure for Microsoft’s operations in Norway. Under this new agreement, Nscale will leverage VAST Data’s AI Operating System to serve as the foundation for its rapidly expanding AI platform.
Nscale Unveils Vision for a Global AI Cloud with VAST Data Architecture
The neocloud provider plans to scale its infrastructure to 300,000 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs worldwide, leveraging VAST Data’s architecture to maximize AI efficiency and unify data access across regions.
According to Nscale, the company’s broader vision is to build an “integrated, globally distributed AI cloud” capable of supporting the next generation of intelligent applications.
“The future of AI will not be defined by raw compute alone, but by the strength of the foundations we build,” said Tom Burke, Chief Revenue Officer at Nscale. “That means infrastructure that can scale globally, operate responsibly, and deliver when it matters most. With VAST as one of our data layers, we can manage the complexity of hyperscale AI seamlessly — placing rich data services at the heart of the modern AI cloud. Together, we’re setting a new benchmark for the next era of enterprise AI infrastructure.”
VAST Data and Nscale Partner to Build the Global Fabric for the Next Generation of AI
Jeff Denworth, co-founder of VAST Data, described the partnership as a pivotal step toward redefining the foundation of AI infrastructure.
“This is not just about building another cloud — it’s about creating the global fabric that will power the next generation of AI,” Denworth said. “By partnering in the next phase of Nscale’s GPU build-out, the VAST Data AI Operating System proves what the industry already knows: AI innovation is impossible without a data platform that can keep up. Together with Nscale, we’re setting the standard for hyperscale AI infrastructure and showing the world what the future looks like.”
In an interview with DCD, Nscale Chief Revenue Officer Tom Burke reflected on the company’s emergence from stealth mode, emphasizing a deliberate, vertically integrated approach to infrastructure development.
“We were certainly in stealth mode for a number of years,” Burke said. “We were very strategic about where we started — building from the ground up with a vertically integrated model that began with securing power in key locations.”
While Nscale occasionally leverages colocation providers, the company’s long-term goal is to build and operate its own data centers.
“We’re focused on constructing the entire stack ourselves — from the physical data center to the GPU infrastructure to the software orchestration layer, which we’re developing in partnership with VAST,” Burke explained.
This vertically integrated strategy, Burke said, allows Nscale to achieve the “lowest cost of compute” while simplifying the experience for both operators and end users.
“VAST’s solution takes the underlying data fed into the environment and makes it simple — for us as a cloud operator, and for our customers who depend on seamless AI performance,” he added.
Beyond its growing partnership with Microsoft, Nscale has recently completed two major funding rounds — $1.1 billion in September 2025 and $433 million in Series C SAFE funding in October.
VAST Data, meanwhile, continues to expand its footprint in the AI infrastructure space. The company, reportedly seeking funding at a $30 billion valuation earlier this year, develops advanced data management and storage systems that combine flash storage and commodity hardware with specialized software for large-scale AI data centers.
In 2024, VAST unveiled a new AI data center architecture co-developed with NVIDIA and powered by NVIDIA BlueField-3 DPU technology. This innovation enables the full disaggregation of VAST’s operating system into AI compute environments, effectively transforming supercomputers into unified AI data engines.
